Training on Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation
About the Program
Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation goes beyond involvement of all stakeholders in the setting of targets, selecting indicators and involving them in the general process of gathering and analyzing monitoring data as well as monitoring results.
Therefore, the program focuses on action engagement of all stakeholders to enhance increased ownership, self-organization and autonomy. It will broaden participants’ acumen on PM&E as a support to project management at different levels and as a tool for strengthening participation, increasing local people’s confidence, and enhancing local capacity control over development decisions and processes.
Program Objectives
After completing this program, participants will be able to:
- Integrate methods in M&E design through a process of systematizing and identifying opportunities to adapt participatory methods to address particular M&E challenges that participants face.
- Apply specific participatory methods to M&E processes having studied at least six key methods using case studies.
- Understand where participatory and learning based approaches to M&E fit within broader approaches to evaluation and adaptive programming having explored major debates around accountability, learning, causation and methodological rigor.
- Critically interrogate and analyse methods, identify their strengths and weaknesses and understand how to adapt and contextualize their use. Participants will be aware of issues of rigor, ethics, scalability, and ease of engagement particularly when using these methods with marginalized people.
- Develop a coherent plan to take back to the organization.
